Cuco
Cuco
Cuco is an 18-year old self-produced Chicano singer out of Los Angeles, CA -- specifically the city of Hawthorne.

Cuco, born Omar Banos, first began playing music at the age of 8 years old.

After teaching himself how to use Ableton, Cuco was eager to start independently releasing his own music once finishing high school.

In 2016, Cuco released his first mixtape Wannabewithu -- a collection of teenage heartbreak over abstract chords, lo fi synths, ambient guitars, punchy drums, and lead trumpets that resonated with thousands of music lovers everywhere.

Mere months later, Cuco welcomed his newfound fans, or "Cuco Pebbles," with a follow up mixtape Songs4u (2017). Having only played So-Cal DIY house shows until recently, Cuco was shocked to sell out his first two venue shows at the Hi-Hat in Highland Park and the Constellation Room in Santa Ana.

With more shows already lined up for 2017, it's looking like a life-altering year for Hawthorne's Cuco.
Helado Negro
Helado Negro
Helado Negro is the music and performance alias of Roberto Carlos Lange. A project circling Sun Ra type cosmic poetry, using abstract ideas embedded with political messages to all good humans of the earth. The compositions are made in the contemporary sense with computers, voice and field recordings. Performance wise he acts like a electrified Abner Jay, being a one man band, shouting, moving and setting up his surreal performance with his Tinsel Mammals and slow orbit sways. The music is sung in english and spanish, a product of his upbringing in South Florida and embedded with his parents Ecuadorian culture of boleros, baladas and carribean dance music. The music is the wind down and possibly the wind up, the in between before the realization of what will happen. His album Private Energy 2016, was given an 8.1 on Pitchfork and his song “It’s My Brown Skin” was honored as “best New Track”.
Lido Pimienta
Lido Pimienta
Lido Pimienta is a Toronto-based, Colombian-born interdisciplinary musician and artist-curator. She has performed, exhibited, and curated around the world since 2002, exploring the politics of gender, race, motherhood, identity and the construct of the Canadian landscape in the Latin American diaspora and vernacular.

Lido's latest LP La Papessa (2016), charts an evolution from her debut LP Color (2010), an album full of (as the title suggests) colorful landscapes and positive vibrations. The 2017 Polaris Prize-nominated album, La Papessa, takes a more personal approach, describing the narrative of how Lido has found her independence as a woman and as an artist who refuses to fit pre-conceived notions of what a pop Latina artist ought to be.

The album was written in multiple cultural and geographic settings -- the desert of Indigenous Wayuu land and the northern mountains in Colombia, as well as in Canada, in both London and Toronto, Ontario -- and the music, in turn, reflects these settings. The sounds on La Papessa take listeners on a musical journey from traditional Afro-Colombian percussion to global bass and darker avant-garde electronic sounds. Lido's piercing, explosive and heartwarming voice unites the compositions, beats and harmonies, resulting in a perfect labour of love and sound that highlights the creative voice of this talented artist.
