We’ve been given two hands, two feet, two eyes and two ears; it has been said that we’ve been given one heart and that the purpose of that beating organ is simply to find its counterpart. The other half could be another being, it could be God, or it could be a passion or even a mission. In the case of front-man Steven Beller of The Hearts it has been a longing to create. Taking inspiration from his diverse taste in music and many different musical projects over the years, he did exactly that: create. Sitting in his home studio, Steven began to write and record song after song, perfecting the sound he heard in his head. Creating drum beats, writing vocal melodies, laying down guitar tracks, perfection of art was the goal.
After increasing frustrations of doing it alone and with the need to perform these songs in a live setting, the wheels were set in motion to recreate the songs for a live medium. After contacting his long-time friend and fellow guitarist Tyson Stiles and enlisting his brother Robby on the drums the dream became a reality. This 2 year period, effectively the “Live and Die” EP, defined The Hearts sound and put them on the stage in almost every premier venue in the Cleveland area, giving them the opportunity to open for many national acts such as Inner Party System, Paper Route, and Sonny (also of Skrillex). During this time of playing numerous shows, promoting, and burning the midnight oil, Robby decided it was time for him to step down from his responsibility of drumming. Immediately the spot was filled by another long-time friend and former band mate, Jesse Judson. After adding Jesse and his loud and full playing style, The Hearts decided to add another long-time friend and former band mate, Jesse Pennington to round out the current line-up.
“Our shows are a full on assault of your senses – we want to blow your mind and leave you wanting more” says Steven. “We want you to walk out of the club feeling high; without ever touching a drug!”
Supersonic synths, driving dance beats, digital breakdowns, ear pleasing harmonies, delayed out guitars – this is what you can expect during a performance by The Hearts. If you like the rock harmonies of Jimmy Eat World, the dance rhythms of Inner Party System, or the subtle intricacies of Coldplay, The Hearts are your music; they are your lifestyle; they are your band.
